Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School was founded in 1905 to serve children of workers of the rail car company in the historic town of Pullman, Illinois. In 1979, Poe became a selective enrollment Classical School and now attracts students from all over Chicago. Poe has achieved a long history of academic excellence and is recognized as one of the top schools in the city and state. 

We are proud of our past accomplishments, but more excited about our future. Poe’s educational philosophy has grown and adapted to meet the evolving needs of students for success in today’s world. Our students receive rigorous, standards-based instruction, personalized to meet their individual needs. They enjoy the latest technology to enhance and deepen traditional instructional methods and allow learning to continue outside of school time. They are afforded abundant opportunities to explore arts and enrichment activities for a well-rounded educational experience.
